The Senior Center of the Kingsbury & Fort Edward Area, Inc.: A Vital Hub for Older Adults in Washington County

At the heart of Washington County, the Senior Center of Kingsbury & Fort Edward Area, Inc. continues to be a cornerstone of connection, activity, and support for local residents aged 50 and older.

Located at 78 Oak Street in Hudson Falls, the center serves the towns of Kingsbury and Fort Edward, the villages of Hudson Falls and Fort Edward, and surrounding communities throughout the region. Its mission is clear: to promote active, engaged, and healthy aging through a broad range of social, recreational, and wellness programs.

A Place for Connection and Growth

The center offers something for everyone. From low-impact fitness classes and wellness activities to social groups for pool, Wii bowling, cards, crochet, knitting, and music, members find both companionship and stimulation. Educational presentations and tech support workshops also help older adults stay informed and connected in a rapidly changing world.

For those with a taste for adventure, the center organizes regular shopping trips to Walmart as well as various lunch tours. These excursions provide valuable social opportunities and help combat isolation, particularly among seniors who live alone.

Nourishment for Body and Soul

One of the center’s core services is its daily congregate lunch program. Every weekday at noon, attendees enjoy a hot, nutritious meal that meets dietary guidelines set by a registered dietitian. Beyond meeting nutritional needs, the lunch program fosters a sense of routine and belonging.

Transportation is available for those who need it, thanks to two handicap-accessible buses that ensure all members can participate, regardless of mobility.

Powered by Community and Compassion

The Senior Center is made possible through a network of local support, including the Tri-County United Way, Washington County CARES Office for the Aging, and financial contributions from the Village of Hudson Falls, the Town of Kingsbury, and the Village of Fort Edward as well as the Town of Fort Edward. Grant funding and individual donations also help sustain the center’s operations.

Fundraisers such as chicken barbecues, fish fries, and car wash voucher drives play a key role in keeping programs running. Community members are encouraged to contribute financially or by volunteering their time and skills. Whether it’s greeting guests, helping serve lunch, teaching crafts, or leading an exercise class, volunteers are essential to the center’s continued success.

More Than a Building

Under the direction of Executive Director, Max McDonnell and Board Chair, Debbie Behan, the Senior Center of Kingsbury & Fort Edward is far more than a facility, it’s a lifeline for many older adults seeking purpose, activity, and connection in their daily lives. “Our goal is to ensure no senior feels alone or left behind,” said McDonnell. “This center is a place where people come to laugh, learn, and live fully, no matter their age.”
